You’re More Than Enough For Me

October 12, 2015

There’s no denying the impact that Hillsong Church music groups (Hillsong, Hillsong United, Hillsong Young & Free, Hillsong Chapel) have had on our contemporary worship lists. Songs like Shout to the Lord, Came to my Rescue, Potter’s Hand, Touch the Sky, and Healer have become worship standards in our set lists. What is it about these songs that strikes a chord in our hearts?

These songs have stories that are woven throughout the lyrics. Not only are they worship songs about and to Jesus, the songwriters pour their heart and soul into them, creating a story pattern that our minds follow as we begin to sing. One such song for me is the song Healer.

This is my go-to song. In this season of my life, I have recognized the ever present need in my heart of not only a Savior, but a healer. One who truly does hold my every moment and calms my raging sea. He is the one who walks with me through fire and heals all my disease, whether that disease be physical or heartsickness. I have learned to trust in Him.

I believe You’re my Healer

I believe You are all I need

I believe You’re my portion

I believe You’re more than enough for me

Jesus You’re all I need”

These words are more than a song, because they remind me that nothing is impossible for Him, for He holds my world in His hands. Quoting the lyrics of this song causes my faith to rise. It lifts my spirit just to know that not only are these words 100% true, that someone else needed them too – and that’s why they wrote the song. Songwriters not only put pen to paper, they write their experiences, their stories and their heart. Truly, God desires to be the healer in our lives.

In the Bible we see it phrases this way:

“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, Because the LORD has anointed me To bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to captives And freedom to prisoners…To grant those who mourn in Zion, Giving them a garland instead of ashes, The oil of gladness instead of mourning, The mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting. So they will be called oaks of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.”(‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭61:1, 3‬ ‭NASB‬‬)

The words of Isaiah the prophet above are those read by Jesus in Luke 4, reminding us of the promise that was fulfilled in Jesus as Messiah. If God cared enough to proclaim a healing voice through Isaiah, and claim those same words when He manifested himself in flesh here on earth, don’t you think He still cares today? That He still desires to be our Healer?

Not only did Jesus come to save, to give our lives purpose in sharing the gospel, and giving us an eternal home, He also came to heal. He came to do a new work on the inside of you. To heal the wounds and scars that the world we live in has left on you. He came to be more than enough for you and I.

I pray the next time you hear this song, you won’t just sing along, but you feel the power and love of a Savior who came to heal. The intensity of One who wants to be all you need. Let the story Jesus wants to tell in your life be complete through His healing.
