~~~~~~~~~~
Thank you so much for allowing us to feature your wedding, Haley! How would you describe your wedding theme/vibe?
If I had to sum up the wedding theme in a few words, they would be feminine, romantic, and regal. We got married in an old English manor in Cheshire, about 30 minutes from my house. I definitely knew what I wanted. I used to look at bridal magazines at age 5, and ever since then, I’ve loved cream, white, and pale pink . . . and lots of candles — lots of flowers and candles
What are some of your favorite or most special memories from your wedding day?
I loved cutting our wedding cake because we had to use a ladder to reach the top.
Another special moment was at the unity candle: a song began to play, and I asked Boston if he knew who was singing . . . It was me. I had recorded “I Get to Love You” by Ruelle. I still love to sing that to him!
We had pictures done outside in between the ceremony and the reception, and as we froze to death for 2 hours, our bridal party and uncle delivered us tea and snacks to help get us through. It was like an arctic tea party!
A fun treat we supplied to guests: after the reception people were hanging out at the manor, and we hired fish and chip trucks (a British classic) to supply a snack for them.
Were there any funny moments or things that didn’t go according to plan?
There was one big thing that didn’t go to plan, but thankfully, I was not in the room yet. At the end of the aisle runner near the altar were two massive fresh floral balls. Before I got there, because they were so heavy, one fell off its stand and spilled dirt everywhere all over the white runner. The wedding planners team then tracked through the dirt, so by the time I made it up to the altar, there were globs of white flower petals in the oddest formation on the runner. It all made sense after I heard the backstory. I’m just glad I was getting ready when it fell over . . . !
Before I walked down the aisle, I got really nervous and almost passed out. There was a drinks station right next to me, and my dad had to basically hold me and stick a straw in my mouth to make sure my blood sugar didn’t plummet again — lol!
How did you find the perfect wedding dress?
It was an accident, really. I had searched online for weeks and weeks, but everything looked the same. I eventually came across one that was located right near where my in-laws were, so my sister-in-law drove over to check it out. We took a chance and bought it off the floor.
I had never seen a skirt quite like this one. Although it had tons of work done to it, which we designed meticulously, it turned out incredible. I did go into total panic though, because I saw it a month before the wedding, and it still wasn’t pieced together.
Tammy Goff (an amazing dressmaker and seamstress) took my dress from a size 12 to a 0. She cut off the top of the dress, which was a strapless sweetheart neckline that finished near the waist. She took the skirt up to rest just under my ribs and added 3 feet to my train, making it about 8-9 feet in total. Thankfully, the designer worked with us to supply the material for the train. We remade the top completely out of a stretchy satin and added a feminine trim. It was a lot of work, but it turned out absolutely incredible — more than I could have dreamed of.
Any advice you have for future brides?
Enjoy the day as much as you can, because it goes so quickly. We had a 10-hour wedding, and that still didn’t feel long enough Oh, and hire a photographer and videographer if you can: you will regret it if you don’t budget them in to capture your big day.
Anything else in particular that you’d like to share about your wedding or your love story?
The wedding was beautiful and more than I could’ve imagined, but my favorite part was walking down the aisle and looking at my soon-to-be husband and thinking, This is just the beginning.
When you have met the person you were perfectly made for, there is such a joy and peace that comes with it. I wish I could tell our full love story because all through it you can see the hand of God in it, but that’s for another day!
