Tea Time

February 19, 2015

I’m slightly obsessed with tea. I’ve visited tea room after tea room, purchased a teapot in England, and had afternoon tea down the street from Windsor Castle.

My 10th birthday party was a fancy tea party where we donned costumes, dined on petite fours, and spoke solely in British accents. I enjoy drinking the beverage in nearly every form: hot or iced, sweetened or unsweetened.

But I must admit it isn’t the mere taste of tea that I enjoy — although it IS delightful — I love the overall experience of spending time with others over tea and refreshments.

The very act of preparing and serving tea encourages conversation. The little spaces in time created by teatime rituals call out to be filled with conversation. Even the tea itself—warm and comforting—inspires a feeling of relaxation and trust that fosters shared confidences. ~ Emilie Barnes

Would you like to host a tea party for a few friends? Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be formal, so do away with airs for  a time of splendid treats and sweet conversation. When the weather warms, you could have a garden party, or perhaps you’d rather share a cozy get-together in the comfort of your home.

There are so many lovely decorating possibilities for a tea party. It all depends on your own style. I personally love the outdoor decor shown above. How very Alice in Wonderland-esque!

Milk or sugar? Why, perhaps I’ll have a bit of both.  Provide optional sweetener, like pretty sugar cubes, and milk or cream if desired.

scones

Scones paired with clotted cream are an absolute must in my opinion. You can find a recipe for scones here and for imitation clotted cream here.

sandwiches

Some dainty tea sandwiches are definitely in order for your party! Find some recipes here.

sweets

You will want to have some sweets, such as French macarons, cookies, or tea cakes, whatever suits your fancy.

I hope these ideas help inspire you, whether you prefer tea or not…Really, the time spent together with others is the most important part of the tea party concept! Keep on being intentional, and don’t forget to use our February hashtag, #shespresent, on your social media posts! ~XOXO
