Setting the Table with Care

December 11, 2019

I love this time of year! My calendar is filled with special gatherings with family and friends. These events are always filled with good food and sweet laughter that make for wonderful memories! I love hosting and making the occasion as special as I can.

I host my family for Thanksgiving each year, and I purposely style my tablescape to easily work for Christmas as well. As a new mom, I don’t have as much time as I used to to completely restyle my décor! All I have to do is add a few winter florals, berries, and touches of red, and I’m good for winter.

I used a mixture of new and vintage items as well as live and fake greenery. You don’t have to start from scratch or have a set of dishes just for Christmas; there’s nothing wrong with that, but I prefer classic styles and versatile colors that can be used time and time again. I have three different white plate sets, and I mix and match them for an eclectic look when I have large groups of company over.

Amazon was my saving grace this year! I found this adorable runner for just $10 and a dozen matching napkins for $17: steals I know I will use ALL the time. This girl can’t get enough of black and white! I have an Amazon Prime account, so all of these items shipped for free. If you’d rather skip shipping costs, in previous years, I have found beautiful, affordable linens at T.J. Maxx/Homegoods. Going out and shopping with a baby isn’t always easy, so I opted for door delivery!

I found this beautiful eucalyptus garland also from Amazon for just $10. I’ve never been one for faux greenery, but I just couldn’t bring myself to spend $40+ for fresh garland. I found matching individual sprigs in the Target dollar section. I purchased fresh berries from my Kroger floral section to add a little life to the garland and bring in the gold color scheme.

I used gold ribbon from the craft store to coordinate with the vintage glassware my mother-in-law passed down to me. I had larger glassware off to the side to use, as these were too small. Not everything on your table has to be practical; sometimes it’s just to be pretty! These beautiful wooden tags are from MidnightConfetti on Etsy. This is the second year I have bought engraved tags, and I think they add such a beautiful, personal touch, and they’re so affordable — only $14-16. They can also be used again and again.

I’ve been wanting gold silverware for ages but have been afraid to buy them based off many reviews that they tarnish and don’t last long. I found a 5-piece 4-person set on Amazon for just $23, which is a lot cheaper than others out there! So far, so good — they’ve held up just fine.

Last but not least, my favorite piece of décor – the gold vintage candle holders. I found these on Etsy, and they will be on my table every chance I get! I am in love with them, and they added just the touch of elegance I was looking for.

I love setting the table for special occasions! I know it will quickly be in disarray once guests arrive, but the table is where everyone gathers, and I think it deserves special care. I hope my tablescape has inspired you! Happy decorating, friends!
