Real Wedding: Dayla Whitaker

June 01, 2018

Dayla, we are so excited to have you and your beautiful wedding on the blog today! Your photos are absolutely gorgeous. How would you describe your wedding theme?

So for my wedding day, I envisioned an elegant, vintage overall theme and look. I chose the colors burgundy and tan for my primary colors and rose, champagne, gold, and blush as my accent colors.

My wedding was everything I had dreamt of, but wouldn’t have been the same without the help of my mom. We planned every detail of the wedding without the help of a professional wedding planner, which I believe was a huge feat.

My mother did everything from the floral arrangements to the ceremony decor to the arrangement of the foods. I still look through the images of my wedding in awe. It was so beautiful; I’m still in love!

What are some of your favorite special memories from your wedding?

My favorite moments to reflect on from my wedding would be the prayer our grandparents and fathers prayed over us. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the building! It was so special. Another favorite moment was standing in the foyer of the church afterward to greet all of our guests! The happiness in the room was overwhelming!

Were there any funny moments or things that didn’t go according to plan?

Oh my goodness, for the funny moments, yes! From our little flower girl panicking because all the petals weren’t out of her basket when she reached the end of the aisle, to my dad responding to “Who giveth this woman to be married to this man?” with “Visa, her mother, and I,” the funny moments made their appearance.

And as far as things not going according to plan? No one knew where the marriage license was, and 15 minutes before the wedding, my husband and his best man were speeding back to the house to find it. Talk about stressful!

How did you find the perfect wedding dress?

Finding a modest wedding dress can be a challenge. When we were searching for my dream dress, I found a few I liked, but because of modesty issues, they didn’t work. Right when I felt like we’d never find THE one, my grandmother found one online on David’s Bridal’s website that wasn’t available in store.

Taking the risk, we ordered it. From the moment I put it on, I knew it was the one. We made a few alterations, and the end result was beautiful!

Any advice for future brides?

For all you future brides out there, take it easy. Enjoy every moment. Take the time to breathe, and don’t stress. Capture the way everything looked in your mind. Greet and talk to your guests. Enjoy your whole day, because it is going to be the best day of your life!

Regardless of what goes wrong, at the end of the day, you are marrying the love of your life, and that’s what is most important. Make up your mind to not worry and to look on the bright side of everything! It’s going to be the most magical day ever, and you need to take the time to embrace every moment.

Before we go, is there anything you’d like to share about your love story?

God knew exactly what He was doing when He put Cody and me together. From the beginning of our friendship, God had a plan for us. Unfortunately, Cody spent around four years in the “friend zone” — or maybe even the “brother zone”? That’s a thing right?

Cody never gave up on pursuing me, and eventually, God got into the mix, and before I knew it, I was marrying the most perfect man for me. My advice for girls out there still waiting on Mr. Right? Stop looking for Mr. Right and start looking for God in everything. Start being what God wants you to be NOW, and Mr. Right will show up and be everything you need.
