Angela, we appreciate you taking out time to allow us to feature your wedding today! How would you describe your wedding décor & theme?

From the beginning of our relationship, my (now) husband had always told me that I was his princess and treated me like one. When we picked our wedding date we learned a couple months later that the “royal wedding” was scheduled for the same day. Jokingly, we said that ours was the true royal wedding. But of course, we could not imagine that the beauty of millions of dollars would ever compare to only a few thousand.

The Indiana State House provided a royal air with marble pillars, great oak doors, and an ornate stained glass rotunda. A grand staircase was the perfect entry for my dad and me while two talented friends played processional songs on a violin and cello. Crystal glass, wood, and gold accents were mixed with eucalyptus, baby’s breath, and peach hypericum berries and tons of fresh roses for arrangements, bouquets, and decor.

At the reception, The Nest, a newly opened event center, provided a cozy and classy location for our mingling and celebration. Their lush furnishings and wood accents blended exceptionally well with our hues of soft pink, cream, and light tan. A couple friends and family members serenaded the guests throughout a relaxing dinner.

What are some of your favorite memories of your wedding day?

After the ceremony, I mentioned to my photographer that I had always dreamed of having a wedding picture underneath a weeping willow tree. This was not in the schedule, but only a few minutes away, we found one at the Indy Canals and made my dream come true.

Were there any funny moments or things that didn’t go according to plan?

As I was waiting to walk down the grand staircase with my dad, my ring bearers (my nephews) headed down the aisle. I learned later that after reaching the front, one proceeded to hug every one of my eight bridesmaids. This generated many laughs and awws. On the way back up the aisle, my sweet, dutiful nephews wanted to be the biggest help to auntie as they stopped to pick up all the strewn flowers. Forget about the bride and groom; they were the real show!

How did you find the perfect wedding dress?

While trying to help another friend find a modest dress for her wedding, I stumbled across this dress on David’s Bridal. I fell in love with it but was not yet engaged (that happened three months later). At first, I thought that I would need to come back when I actually needed one, but then I saw that there was only my size left with a “final sale” price. When I showed it to my mom and sisters, they said I must get it. I ordered it, and it fit perfectly without alterations.

Any advice you have for future brides?

As ladies, when we think of our wedding day, we have so many dreams and plans, but then comes the reality of the price tag. Even for the most simple wedding, thousands of dollars are shelled out. But many times there are ways to have a gorgeous wedding at a very low cost. Decide what things are most important and compromise on others. Friends and family with talents and businesses are key to making the dream come true.

Speaking of family and friends, the most precious moments I had as a bride was all of them surrounding me before and on my wedding day. Cherish all those moments, because there are not many days you will have everyone you love in one place. Planning will inevitably be stressful, but sometimes the best moments are the ones that are not planned, so relax and enjoy your day.
