Homemade Hot Chocolate

December 12, 2019

Happy National Cocoa Day!

Who doesn’t love a mug of cocoa at Christmastime? I know I do! Each year, I make as much of this delectable treat as I can. Establishing traditions and making memories with my people mean the world to me. Holiday baking and cooking are high on my list, and today, I would love to share one of my favorites with you.

Be intentional with your time; get in the kitchen and unwind while you create magic. In this busy season of hustle and bustle, let this be a reason for you to slow down! I promise, you won’t be disappointed.

How adorable are these perfect pineapple measuring spoons?!

Put your own special touch on this recipe; take it to a party or maybe a cookie swap! Share love, laughter, stories, and special moments while sipping your hot cocoa this Christmas. The recipe will make enough to fill a little more than twelve 8-oz jars — which means it is a perfect gift for all the special people in your life!

My boys and I used these adorable vintage blue jars to make gifts for all our favorite teachers this year!

Ingredients:

  • 9 oz nonfat dry milk
  • 16 oz sugar
  • 20 oz can hot chocolate
  • 8 oz non-dairy powder creamer
  • 8 oz hazelnut powder creamer
  • 16 oz French vanilla powder creamer
  • 1/2 c. cocoa
  • 1/2 c. instant coffee (Maxwell House French Vanilla Café Blend)

Mix all the dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl. Store in an airtight container. Add 3 heaping tsp., or as much as desired, to a mug of hot water. Make sure to leave enough room at the top for a handful of marshmallows, then sprinkle just enough cinnamon to create Christmas in a cup!

It only takes about 30 minutes or less to combine all the ingredients. Once you’re finished, settle into a cozy spot with a good book or maybe a few of your favorite girls, and close your eyes as you take that first sip: it will certainly warm your soul! I wish you the most merry Christmas and pray you enjoy this delicious drink as much as I do!
