Look Up + Be Grateful

November 03, 2014

Happy November, darlings!

I am particularly fond of November for numerous reasons (my birthday, Thanksgiving, colorful leaves, apple pie, the beginning of the Christmas season to name a few…).

November is all about thankfulness, gratefulness, and counting one’s blessings.

Thanksgiving is not merely a holiday, but a time to reflect on the goodness of God and the wonderful opportunity we have on a daily basis to love those around us and to be a light to a world in need of salvation and joy in Jesus Christ. Yet have you ever noticed that what you truly end up being grateful for is so much more meaningful than basic, materialistic goods? Gratefulness comes out of the abundance of the heart for people, the Lord, and experiences.

I will sing of the mercies of the Lord for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations. {Psalm 89:1, KJV}

This year, as I am pondering what I am really grateful for, it’s not things that I would have answered in previous years. While I am thankful for food, shelter, clothing, family and friends, here, right now, in this moment, I am inexplicably appreciative of God’s faithfulness, of His mercies, of the privilege to worship Him. Our world has seen much heartache this year, and many people do not have the liberty to worship God in freedom because of various laws and stipulations placed upon them due to governmental regulations.

I have a lovely life, truly; although it is certainty not perfect my any means. In fact, sometimes it actually feels pretty rotten. I have bad days, I have bad moods, I get irritated with my brother. But overall? I am a blessed woman. I have more than what I need for survival, I am blessed beyond measure with a wonderful family, a job that I love, and people in my life that make me smile and laugh.

Most of all, however, I am the daughter of the King of Kings.

Because of this, I am called to sing praises of thanksgiving and joy to His Name forever.

It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night. {Psalm 92:1-2, KJV}

Throughout the month of November and during this Thanksgiving season, will you join with She’s Intentional in gratefulness? Because we are all unique individuals, what we are grateful for will differ, yet at the same time, because we are sisters in Christ, I am sure there will be common themes, as well.

So let’s focus on looking up toward heaven and focusing on being grateful together!
