Facing the Inevitable

May 05, 2016

There are some things in this life that are certainly unavoidable. There are things in our lives that are always sure to come that we cannot ignore. Some things are so frequent that we can predict exactly, on the dot, when they will occur.

Every month, there are these sweet little notifications in an envelope that the mailman delivers. If you’re lucky, it may be a thinking-of-you-card or even love letter. Unfortunately, though, I am referring to responsibilities in life called payments. Each month, we will sit down and pay our car payment, health insurance, phone bill, student loans, and the list goes on. Monthly payments are inevitable. It’s going to happen and we can’t ignore it unless we want a penalty for not paying on a bill.

For me as a college student, it is certain that I will have to study for an exam, complete homework, finish projects and other reports. School assignments are, in fact, inevitable. It is something in my life that will be assigned to me and I have to be ready and prepared. Can the assignments and deadlines be avoided? Yes, if I want to fail or not graduate.

But, as Christians, God never wants us to be lazy and slack in life. Everything we do, we do for the glory of God.

The list of things we face in life is unending. We face work tasks, auto repair, world crisis, wars, weather destruction, life and death, needs and wants, health issues, and so forth. And one thing for sure that we will eventually face is overcoming trials. Whether it is a trial that God puts us through or a snare from Satan, we will have to face it. Trials are inevitable. Just as the sun will rise in the morning and the moon at night, so will storms rage.

In all of life’s unavoidable moments, we have a choice as to how we will handle them. Will we avoid the unavoidable? Will we try to be the captain of our own ship and sail through our own way? Or, will we take our own detour when really we have no clue where this road will lead to?

Even in life’s predictable moments, we simply need to be still and trust God to lead us through life’s everyday routines. But what about when we aren’t so sure, we can afford our car payment? What about when we are unprepared for a school project, or just dealing with the same health issue you have had forever. How will we overcome certain tests and trials we face? Will we trust in God and be still for His glory?

God’s Word is our victory. His Word is true and will come pass as He continues to always have the victory. We, too, can have the victory in any circumstance when we place our trust in Him instead of this world. Sometimes we aren’t ready to face life’s predictable moments. But, if we allow and trust God, He will face it for us. He has never failed nor forsaken us. No matter what unavoidable moment you may be facing or struggling with, simply trust Him and be still.

 “Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.” {Psalms 37:5}
