DIY Bathroom Makeover

I love seeing house flips and make overs, but most of the time the work involved in these projects seems so daunting — requiring professional carpenters and craftsmen for every area involved, not to mention the usually large budget. I have discovered it doesn’t always require a massive overhaul to transform a space, though. I made over our guest bathroom with less than $80 — no power tools or handymen required! This DIY bathroom makeover was easy for me and can be easy for you, too!

I made some seriously simple changes that added a big impact. First, my husband painted the walls. We chose a bright cheery turquoise by BEHR called Gulf Winds to liven up the small space. I love this color! It’s easy to add accent colors to and the rustic wood accessories really contrast.

Next, I changed out the plain standard towel rack for rustic numbered hooks. I found this rack at Marshalls for about $10, score!

Other than the small space under the sink, there was no storage for towels. I wanted the towels to be visible and easily accessible for guests. So for the towels I added a wooden crate I found at Walmart for $10 and for wash rags a smaller basket I got at the Habitat Restore for $2.

The mirror was the standard builder mirror. Plain and boring. Thankfully when we took it down there wasn’t much glue holding it in place and minimal damage to the wall. Again, Mashalls came through for me and I found this simple round mirror for $20. This inexpensive change adds a custom look.

I love my simple rustic bathroom. It flows with the theme of our home and was a cinch to do. We receive so many compliments on this bathroom and it just thrills me that I can tell people I did most of it on my own and at such a small cost!
