Destroy the Distractions

August 24, 2015

As Christian ladies in this generation, there are many distractions that come our way. Take kids to school, go to work, pick kids up, make dinner, do laundry, rush to church — and the list goes on. Even for younger ladies as myself, the day’s agenda is filled with long and tiresome college classes, work, and other life obligations.

Life demands our attention and has its distractions for women of all ages.

I frequently hear young ladies say, “I am just going to follow the will of God.” Which is great, don’t get me wrong, but there is something concerning the desires of the flesh which gets misunderstood. We cannot maintain a kingdom-minded attitude by casually remaining at a standstill while tending to earthly desires. When we make unfulfilling investments in earthly possessions, those “things” will replace the plan that God wills for our lives.

Last week I was in Roatan, Honduras with my fellow Hope Corps class for our intensive training week (ITW). Due to the Hope Corp Center not having access to Wi-Fi, I had little activity on social media. During that time I relished every minute of having absolutely no distractions through social media and technology because it gave me such clarity in listening to the voice of God.

One hour can quickly fly by when we’re aimlessly distracted and accomplishing merely nothing in earthly pleasures. Before we know it, day by day, it becomes habitual and we fail to realize that we are wasting time. But when we designate one hour in prayer to the Lord we enter into the realm of the supernatural. When we put our investments in earthly possessions and pleasures we lose the voice of God and His will for our lives.

“And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distractions.” {1 Cor. 7:35}

Do you feel as though you’re called to the ministry? Stay focused on the kingdom of God: those eternal things. Do you feel as though you are called to serve in a greater capacity for the Lord? Don’t allow yourself to have idle time in insignificant, meaningless actions. You can’t fulfill the will of God and turn your world upside down in the midst of distractions. Our God is not a God of distractions and half-hearted desires.

There have been times quite often when I have put my own agenda before God’s agenda for my day. I schedule my own earthly desires and shut the door to what God had planned for me which becomes a hinderance in being the vessel that experiences the signs, wonders, and miracles that could unfold in our lives. When we begin to pray, we have to put our flesh in captivity and put out to-do list aside. We must constantly and sincerely ask ourselves if we are fulfilling our own selfish will or the will of God.

Not all good plans are God plans. So earnestly seek Him and destroy the distractions in your life that are a hindrance.

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” {Matt. 6:33}

It is imperative that every morning before you begin your daily schedule to rekindle the zeal and passion by reminding yourself to begin with prayer and the Word of God. Remember this: your daily schedule can have a lasting legacy in the kingdom of God. Choose to seek the face of God every morning in prayer when you awake. Never let the noise of this world distract you from hearing the voice of God. Friends will fail you, popularity will not satisfy you, life will disappoint you. But God will never disappoint you. He will firmly and faithfully guide you in the plan for your life that He has predestined ever since the day you were born.  Your prayer, fasting, and reading the Word of God should never be on your to-do list.

Destroy the distractions that can potentially alter your future legacy in God.
