Christmas Eve + Christmas Thoughts

December 24, 2015

It’s the night before Christmas, and if your house is anything like mine, then everyone definitely IS stirring. Perhaps you are wrapping last minute gifts, stuffing stockings full of goodies, or baking up a storm. It’s easy to become so busy that we forget to take a moment to focus on the heart of the season: Jesus, family, and the giving of ourselves to others.

This year, this season, I want to go back to having a sense of childish wonder. I don’t want to let it become routine: the reading of the birth of Christ, the time with family, the opening of the gifts. I want to slow down and savor each moment, to focus on the true meaning of Christmas.

When I was little, I had a saying–one I would proclaim year after year, one that has become a source of amusement within my family. As we were having our festivities every holiday season, I would say: “This is the BEST Christmas ever!”. And each time I said it, I meant it. I enjoyed every moment of this wonderful season. Well, this year, I’ve resolved to celebrate it as much as I did as an exuberant little girl. Again, I will endeavor to spread joy and love freely. I pray that each of you, too, have “The BEST Christmas ever!”.
