Cardio or Weights First?

September 28, 2018

Hi, lovelies!

I hope you had an amazing week and are thoroughly enjoying your weekend.

I want to talk about a topic that a lot of people wonder about, debate about, and question what is the correct answer.

I am sure you have considered today’s topic, and if not — I’m going to share my point of view! Now remember, my point of view sides mainly with science when it comes to fitness and health.

So, cardio or weights first?

In training and eating, remember that there is no one thing that is going to set you up for failure. It would be a repetition of small things here and there over time that would cause a lack of progress. So no one thing (except just not doing it) will make you lose out on allll of the work you have put in!

I used to run before I lifted. Sometimes it was a mile, sometimes it was more. I didn’t realize that I was depleting much of my energy stores by running before I lifted.

Our muscles store glycogen, utilizing it as energy when we go to work out. When you run, you start depleting your glycogen stores. When you lift, you start depleting your glycogen stores. So if your primary goal is to lose weight and gain some muscle tone, lifting should be your first go-to! Your stamina will be higher, and you will be able to complete your lifting routine getting allll of those reps + sets in!

If your goal is cardiovascular health, but you still want a good lifting routine – I recommend training these on different days! That way, you get the best of both worlds AND the results.

I hope you beauties found this helpful, and if you have any questions, I am always here to answer!

XO with so much love, belief in you, and a London fog,
Leah
