Be Merry and Bright

December 15, 2014

This year I have been really excited about decorating for Christmas. I don’t have a lot of Christmas decorations, but I’ve made up my mind to hit all of the end of the season sales this year and stock up! One thing I knew I could do was light up the exterior of our house with those gorgeous icicle lights and add lights to a tree or two.

But being almost 5 months pregnant, I knew I shouldn’t attempt it on my own. So I asked my husband to help and much to my dismay he wasn’t as excited about the idea of spending a whole Saturday hanging lights.

And just like that my dream of a beautifully lit festive home didn’t seem possible, until I turned to Pinterest in search for some simple, no-ladder-needed ideas. Honestly, I vicariously eat, travel, shop and decorate through Pinterest. I know I can’t be the only one and that’s probably why Pinterest is so widely popular.

My search for easy outdoor christmas decorations came up with some adorable results, and I just had to share them with you!

My mom is obsessed with snowmen, so in her honor I had to include a few of them. Not only is the image above of that little snowman family cute, they’re frugal too! Learn how to make these for $3 at Sew Much Fun.

tree
How adorable are these rustic trees from HGTV? I have fallen in love with them! They require some power tools and probably a couple of hours to make, but you could easily store them and use them year after year.

You would never guess what these outdoor tree ornaments are made from: drinking straws! They’re cleverly spray painted in a festive red color. but could also be sprayed with glitter, metallic colors or glow in the dark spray paint. More details on the DIY process at Discover 0.

christmaslightballs
I saw these light balls and thought that there was no way they were an easy DIY. I was completely wrong! Chicken wire, LED lights and wire cutters are about all you need to make these stunning yard decorations. I think these would be adorable hanging from a porch by fishing wire or lining a walkway.
