A Maternity Outfit Wish List

November 18, 2014

As I begin the second trimester of my second pregnancy, I’m anxiously creating my “Maternity Wish List.” There are many affordable options for maternity clothing, and a few of my favorites include Target (of course!), Asos, Zulily and eBay. Then there’s Dainty Jewell’s. I know what you’re thinking, “Dainty Jewell’s doesn’t have a maternity line.” No, there isn’t a maternity line, but there are a lot of pieces that I love for modest maternity wear. Let me share with you my wish list and why I love these pieces for maternity outfits.

First up, the ever so darling Rust Bow Sweater Dress. While this sweater can work for many body types, I think it will work well as an early maternity top because of the A-line structure and stretchy fabric.

The details are just fabulous on this sweater! The little polka dots aren’t a fabric pattern, they are actually little cream puffs attached to the sweater. Do you like mixing textures? Then this sweater is for you. Shoulder lace, chiffon bow and tulle hem add interest to an otherwise simple silhouette.

The Stripe or Solid Maxi Dress makes a comfortable and stylish maternity dress. The elastic high waist will allow a growing belly for quite some time.  I own two of these dresses and just adore them! The length is fantastic and the amount of accessories that can be added to these dresses is endless.  The green and red are perfect for the upcoming Holiday Season!

Our Favorite Lace Top is a wonderful maternity option. It can be worn with a sash, belt or without and is still lovely. The flair shape of the top makes for a comfortable maternity fit and won’t be constraining.

The Tea with the Queen Dress is the dress version of Our Favorite Lace Top in my opinion. Doesn’t this dress look classy and still very comfortable? And I hear it will soon be coming in another color. I can’t wait to see what color it will be!

Another favorite of mine is the Crochet Lace Dress. The high waisted cut will make this a great maternity shirt. I put this on my wish list because this top is so versatile. It can easily be dressed up with heels and a pencil skirt, but can also be worn with boots and denim skirt. I can also imagine this top looking so cute layered on top of a collared denim or plaid shirt.

In my experience there are a few keys to choosing regular clothing to wear as maternity outfits:

    1. Stretch in the fabric is great.
    2. Purchase a size or two up from what you normally wear. I was so surprised during my first pregnancy at how my body changed in areas other than my stomach. I needed a little extra room everywhere in my clothes to feel comfortable during pregnancy and for a short time after.
    3. Watch for A-line, flair and high-waisted cuts. These styles will work best for your new body shape.
    4. Enjoy your growing miracle in style!
