A 30th Birthday Trip To NYC

January 14, 2019

The past several months have been full of travel for me — a trip to Atlanta to write for my new music project, a trip to my parents for the holidays and to my in-laws for the New Year, and a trip back to Atlanta to record. It’s been a fun and busy season!

And smack dab in the middle of all that, I turned 30.

The big 3 – 0.

And my husband surprised me with a trip to New York City. (He definitely upped his birthday game this year!)

It was a quick weekend trip, so we made a must-see, must-do list and tried to cram as much in as possible! Time Square, Little Italy, Rockefeller Center, Phantom of the Opera . . . It was quite the list for about 3 days!

We landed at JFK on Friday evening, checked into our hotel in Time Square, then went out to explore. NYC really is the city that never sleeps!

December is such a great time to visit NYC! It was cold, so I definitely recommend layers, hats, scarves, and gloves. But the lights and holiday decor were so much fun to see!

I loved the Christmas tree, ice skating rink, and light show at Rockefeller Center & Saks Fifth Avenue. We even saw a couple get engaged on the ice! (Such a great idea, fellas!)

We made it to the top of the Empire State Building. The view at night was amazing! It’s always so cool to see the city lit up against the night sky.

And no trip is complete with food! (I’m not the only one that plans my itinerary around the food I want to eat, right?) At the top of my list were bagels and pizza.

We went to Ess-A-Bagel (where we stood in line for a bit) and had an original bagel with cream cheese and an everything bagel with bacon, egg, cheese, tomato, and avocado. Both were amazing and definitely worth the wait in line!

We also made the trip to Little Italy where we had pizza at Lombardi’s Pizza, America’s first pizzeria. It was delicious! We followed it up with the best cannoli I’ve ever had (I’m seriously still craving it) from Caffe’ Palermo and a lovely walk down Mulberry Street.

This weekend trip to NYC for my 30th birthday was easily one of the funnest weekends ever. We walked a lot, rode the subway, got a bit turned around in Central Park at night, explored several unique neighborhoods . . . There’s so much to see. My husband and I fell in love with the city and we can’t wait to go back!

Have you ever visited New York City? What were your favorite things to do and see? Let me know in the comments!
